Ways to be More Organized as a Student

As a student, you may wear a lot of hats in school. There will be a lot of activities that you can participate in. Some of these activities you already enjoy and are already interested in while you may also find new interests. However, you are also expected to continue to excel in your academics and keep up with your school homework. Those are also beside the co-curricular activities you are also expected to be a part of. It may just seem like a lot to manage and very challenging to students who are also juggling other out-of-school activities. However, it’s not totally impossible.

There are several ways for students to continue to work on their academics while also engaging in the activities they enjoy doing. These ways are also aimed to lessen the stress of these activities on the students so they can also rest. One good way to do so is by organizing and we have gathered some useful ways and habits that students can use and incorporate into their daily living.

1. Create a comprehensive routine

Routines are very important, especially in trying to create a habit. Staying organized will help you be on top of things and creating a routine and sticking to it will help you in doing so. Sticking to your routine will help you perform the same activities and actions every day and in doing so it will be an automatic response for you. This will not only save your energy that you can use for other activities but also your time, making your day more productive for other activities.

A routine also allows you to plan ahead by providing you with an idea of the duties that are coming up. It helps you plan your activities ahead if you already know them. This would also help if there are unexpected circumstances during your day.

2. Get a planner

Humans are not perfect so there will be instances that you may have overlooked some things, especially for things or tasks that have a further deadline. Chances are students tend to forget about them not until the last moment, since students think that they are still far away from the present. However, you don’t have to go through this every time you have a task scheduled further away.

Get a planner and list down the task you need to do and put them in the calendars that planners usually come with. Your planner doesn’t even have to be the physical one, you can get planner apps nowadays. However, the use is still the same. You can put in important dates in your planners such as exam dates and deadlines to remind you when they are coming up. Additionally, it also keeps these important dates visible without having to remind you at the last possible moment. Planners will help you manage your time better and complete your tasks before the set deadline. This would then allow you to spend your free time doing something else and also lessen the feeling of being overwhelmed with deadlines.

3. Break down your workload

When studying for a test or an exam, the amount of studying you must do to cover all materials can be daunting and demotivating. There would be a lot of cover in a short time and the workload could seem like gigantic for you. This is why it’s helpful to break down your workload into smaller, more manageable pieces.

You can try studying for an upcoming exam way before the scheduled date. This would allow you to go over the topics and concepts with a more in-depth understanding while not having to worry about covering all of it in one night. You can also create min-deadlines for yourself when creating a project. For example, you can set the brainstorming for your project weeks before the deadline, then you can start off with the first phase the next week until you can complete your project. This would ensure you have the time you need to work on it and not miss out on any details while also giving you the freedom to add in more details you may not have thought of initially. Additionally, it would also help reduce the stress that comes with deadlines.

4. Avoid procrastination

When it comes to finishing our schoolwork, procrastination might be our greatest enemy because doing schoolwork can become so dry and boring. It’s understandable that students may want to put their energy into other activities like sports that would allow them to move around. However, they still need to complete their homework and other academic tasks. Avoiding procrastination can be easier said than done but it’s not impossible. You can also try some things to deal with it.

One way to do so is to promise yourself with a reward once you start and finish your task early. It can be an hour more of playing or even a treat. Having an accountability partner can also help keep you in check. This can be your friend, parent, or even your home tutor. You can also minimize or get rid of distractions once you start your tasks like putting your gadgets away.

5. Keep your workspace clean

Cleaning is the last thing on your mind while you study for your forthcoming examinations. There are a lot of study materials that you have to go over and topics to revise so cleaning isn’t really a priority. However, maintaining a clean workspace isn’t just about cleaning altogether.

You experience less stress and mental health benefits after decluttering. You can focus better and maintain your motivation to study if you create an environment that is conducive to doing so. Get rid of things that are affecting your concentration for the worse and add things that help soothe you like candles or scents. You can also customize your workspace in ways that can help you finish tasks more efficiently like adding organizers.
