The academic curriculum set upon the students by the government only truly extends as far as a polytechnic or junior college. After that stage, individuals are given the freedom to choose which academic exit they will take. Be it pursuing higher educational attainment, joining the workforce, or starting one’s own business, an individual is free to choose for themselves what exit they will take.
For most individuals, deciding which exit to take can be a tough decision, especially if they are not yet aware of the perks of each exit. As home tuition, we hope that this article will walk you through one of the many exits an individual can take: going for higher education and getting a Bachelor’s degree.
Just like every academic exit one chooses after junior college or poly, taking a Bachelor’s degree provides a number of perks unique to itself. Here are a few examples of the perks one will attain from having a Bachelor’s degree.
The most obvious perk associated with having a Bachelor’s degree is the fact that it allows better job opportunities to manifest for an individual. This is not to say that all individuals with a Bachelor’s degree will be employed better than those without, however, the chances of them getting a decent job are still high.
This is due to the fact that most companies require their employees to have at least a Bachelor’s degree if they want to work in any non-physical labor-intensive company. This usually encompasses office work, auditing, or sales management. All of which are excellent sources of stable income which usually require individuals to have a Bachelor’s degree.
The extra 4 or so years one takes before graduating to attain a Bachelor’s degree is a curse to some but a blessing to many. For some individuals, the extra time they spend learning more about their chosen career path will allow them to work better once they actually get into the field.
They will be able to learn more theories related to their chosen career paths and be able to learn more specific knowledge. This can be a really great upside especially if you want to get to know your chosen career choice as much as possible before entering the field of work.
Just like the extra time for learning theory mentioned earlier, more years spent studying also means more time spent developing the skills necessary to become an exemplary individual in their chosen career path. Be it communication skills, academic-related skills, or leadership skills, the extra time spent learning all of these will surely bear fruit and develop these skills to their maximum.
Skills are necessary once one wants to excel in their chosen career choice. So, the opportunity to hone these skills even before you enter the field is too huge of an advantage to pass up for others.
Another major benefit of having a Bachelor’s degree is that it allows individuals to take another step upward the academic ladder. This means that after one takes and attains their Bachelor’s degree, they can then proceed towards taking a Master’s or even Doctorate. Taking a Bachelor’s degree opens up so many doors for the future that it would seem like it is the gateway towards a myriad of choices an individual can make once they graduate college.
This doesn’t necessarily apply to all of the individuals with a Bachelor’s degree, however, to some extent, having a Bachelor’s degree does promise a little bit of financial stability for an individual.
Having a Bachelor’s degree increases the likelihood of being employed in a good company that comes with health benefits along with at least minimum wage. This ensures that an individual can live by themselves without having to worry about financial issues. Except of course, if you have a large student loan left behind, then you might want to consider reading our article about it here.
Now, remember that taking a Bachelor’s degree isn’t always the right choice for everyone. Anyone can get by in life even without a Bachelor’s degree so long as they have the determination and skills to become successful. However, if you are having trouble deciding for yourself whether to take a Bachelor’s degree or not to, then here are a few questions you can ask yourself to make the right decision:
First off, ask yourself this question: “Do I know what I really want to do?”. Knowing the end goal that you wish to attain is necessary to have a clear vision of the path you should take with your life. So, make sure to be aware of what you want to do first before jumping into college.
Some career choices don’t require a Bachelor’s degree such as a flight attendant, medical assistant, massage therapist, etc. If you intend to take any of the career paths that do not require a Bachelor’s degree, then it would be better to not invest your time learning theory and skills that will not be relevant in your chosen career path.
There will be times when an individual will just allow themselves to be carried away by the current event of things and just choose to go with the flow. However, these typed of individuals are prone to regret once they settle down and start to realize their mistake.
There will also be times when the parents of an individual push them to pursue a Bachelor’s degree even when an individual doesn’t need one for their chosen career path. This is also an example of going with the flow which will ultimately lead to the individual regretting the choices they thought they made for themselves when in reality they were made by the people around them.
Going with the flow isn’t necessarily a bad thing, it is being carried away and not making decisions for yourself that will clearly affect you in the future that is the main cause for concern here. So, be sure to decide for yourself.
For some individuals, time is the most important resource they own. If you are one of those types of people, then you might want to think things over before diving headfirst into a Bachelor’s degree.
Most Bachelor’s usually last for at least 4 years. This is the usual minimum time requirement for attaining a Bachelor’s degree. So, if you can take a few more extra years before you step out of the world and start your career, then by all means take a Bachelor’s degree if you want to.
Just like how you will be confined in a university or college for 4 years or so when taking a Bachelor’s degree, your life, specifically your professional career, will also be put on hold for the amount of time you spend studying.
For most people, this is perfectly fine as the norm is to graduate and attain a Bachelor’s degree then proceed to the real world. However, if you are an individual that wants to get things done as fast as possible, then you might want to think things over first.
Most of the time, having a Bachelor’s degree means that you will be stuck working a certain career for the rest of your life. After all, you have studied an extra 4 or so years just to get that Bachelor’s degree. This is why it is also important to ask yourself whether you are willing to dedicate your life to a certain career.
If your answer is yes, then you will have no problem taking and attaining a Bachelor’s degree as your primary academic exit. If you aren’t really a fan of sticking to a single career for the rest of your life, then there are always alternatives to taking a Bachelor’s, such as starting your own business or becoming a freelance worker.
Another useful question you will need to answer first before committing to taking a Bachelor’s degree is whether or not your chosen career choice actually requires a Bachelor’s or not. There are a ton of career paths out there that do not require education higher than poly or junior college. And if you want to take that career path, then taking a Bachelor’s degree might not be worth your time.
However, if you are truly invested in the idea of having a Bachelor’s degree, then you can always do as you please. Just don’t forget to weigh your choices before committing to any rash decision.
The final and most important question you need to ask yourself in order to decide whether taking a Bachelor’s degree is right for you is whether you want to go or not. No matter what perks lie ahead of having a Bachelor’s degree, if you are not really interested in having one, then all of your efforts will be for naught.
The opposite can also be said true. Even if the career path you wish to take does not necessarily need a Bachelor’s degree, if you wish to have one, either for insurance or you just really want a Bachelor’s degree, then you can always follow what you want to do and proceed to take a Bachelor’s degree. After all, it is your life that is in your hands and not anybody else’s.
