Purpose: Do I Really Need To Complete Education To Succeed In Life?

Amidst revision for the next examination, we might ponder if we really need to complete our education to succeed in life. Apart from gaining content knowledge in school, what else do we even learn anyway? If I can learn all that knowledge on my own at home, do I really need to stress myself to keep up with an institution’s requirements? Maybe we don’t actually need to complete education to succeed in life after all, but there are things we get in the process of our education journey which might still be valuable and worth considering.

Brainy Skills

Apart from all the educational content we learn to just simply ‘pass’ our examinations with flying colours, we actually learn other valuable skill sets in the meantime. Think about it, to answer our English comprehension questions we need inference skills. And to answer Science questions we also need to have skills like critical thinking and application of knowledge. When we do Mathematics questions, we master the art of Mathematics and can do ‘quick maths’ when we buy food or make purchases. The list goes on, and we see ourselves actually gaining a lot more brainy exposure apart from the actual content itself. This is worth taking note of, before brushing off the fact that education is not fundamental for grooming us into knowledgeable individuals!

Hard Times

Being in an educational system invites us to all types of bad/undesirable experiences but in fact builds us up bit by bit into a stronger and more determined individual. Just like running a race, the longer we run, the greater the stamina. We go through all sorts of rushing like projects, last minute assignment submissions but we learn what persevering means and how procrastination is bad, you know? They might seem entirely pointless because why throw ourselves into a bad situation when it can be avoided right? We won’t really have that choice in the future though, at our workplace we just have to deal with it. So let’s take it positively like a trial with no obligations and get good experiences out of it. Not to say that education is an indicator of success, but rather that the process of being in an educational system really moulds you into a grown-up!

But No, You Don’t

So NO, you don’t need to complete education to succeed in life. While there’s usefulness in education as above, apart from knowledge gained, you don’t actually need to complete it to feel like you have done something great. If dropping out education to pursue your purposes in life is something you have thought about and want to do, please do so! However, you NEED to know what you WANT to do next and actually work to achieve it, if you really want to succeed in YOUR LIFE JOURNEY. Standard paths are in fact not meant to always be followed, it’s only but a gauge and an example for how you can live out your life. But taking a non-standard path also requires as much and maybe even more effort to do the exploration, the research and the execution on your own. You need to be sure of it before diving into it!

As a private tuition, FamilyTutor advises you to always talk to someone about it, think through your aspirations and purposes in life before making a big decision like this to drop out of the education pathway. Maybe it’s just one or a couple of downfalls causing you to feel like education is not worth anymore, then you should be focusing on overcoming it and never using the leaving of education as a means to feel better. But at the end of the day, completing your education is only one of the ways people can choose to define success, it was never a one size fits all thing!

Hey, ‘Trailing Thoughts’ is a series that is here to stay. We discuss the big questions in our heads – the journey was never easy but we go step by step!
