Even Primary 1 Registration 2020 Has Gone Online!: What Should I Take Note Of?

This fateful 2020 year, the COVID-19 situation in Singapore has driven many activities and events online. It has hence also affected some aspects of the Ministry of Education’s (MOE) yearly Primary 1 Registration. Precautionary measures will be taken to ensure that registration procedures will be ‘COVID-19’ safe; in other terms, it will be online. There will not be any in-person registration at schools at all. Because you might not know which changes are applicable to you, parents like yourself might find yourself in a state of frenzy so we decided to break down exactly what you need to take note of this Primary 1 Registration season!

No Change in P1 Registration Style for Phases 1, 2C & 2C Supplementary

What are the requirements of Phases 1, 2C & 2C Supplementary?

For Phase 1, eligibility is for those with another child currently studying at the school. Registration under this phase grants guaranteed places in the schools. Phase 2C is then for P1-eligible children who are not yet registered in a primary school.

Registration should be done online using the Primary One Internet System (P1-IS). Phase 2C Supplementary is finally for P1-eligible children who are not yet registered after Phase 2C. Similarly, registration should be done online using the Primary One Internet System (P1-IS).

So for children eligible for Phase 1, parents will be directly in contact with the school via email for the submission of the application form and necessary documents. Any follow ups and updates will be made from the school where the older sibling is currently studying in!

And for children eligible under Phases 2C and 2C Supplementary, the registration will be online via the existing P1-IS. Parents only need to use their SingPass to login as well.

Key Changes in P1 Registration Style for Phases 2A(1), 2A(2) & 2B

What are the requirements of Phases 2A(1), 2A(2) & 2B?

Phase 2A(1) is for children with a parent who was a former student of their preferred school, and has signed up as a member of the alumni association not later than 30 June 2019. Alternatively, the parent can be a member of the Advisory or Management Committee of their preferred school. An online form will need to be completed to register under this phase.

Phase 2A(2) is for children with a parent or a sibling who has previously studied in their preferred school. Otherwise, other fitting criteria for this phase is if the parent is a staff member of the school, or if their child is currently in the MOE Kindergarten under the purview of and located within the preferred school. An online form also needs to be completed to register under this phase.

Lastly, Phase 2B is for those with a parent who is a parent volunteer at the school, starting before 1 July 2019 and completing at least 40 hours of service by 30 June 2020, or with a parent who is a member endorsed by the church or clan directly connected to the school. Another option is for the parent to be endorsed as an active community leader. This phase also requires the completion of an online form for registration.

Thus, the main change as seen above for Phases 2A(1), 2A(2) and 2B is that in-person registration has been replaced with an online application form for registration using their SingPass.

Enable SingPass 2-Step Verification Early

One of the most important things for this digital P1 Registration is to ensure that parents set up their SingPass 2FA early and not at the last minute. This allows for a smooth and successful registration experience without any technicalities undesirably cropping up at the last minute! It’s our child’s first time going to experience formal education in Singapore, so let’s make sure everything goes fine.

Alternative Child-Care Arrangement Submission Is Online

Something else important to keep in mind is that if you would like to register your child using another home address (child’s grandparent or parent’s sibling), you will need to complete an online form instead of doing the usual procedure of submitting the declaration physically at MOE’s Customer Service Centre.

And LASTLY, if you require any form of help or assistance during this P1 Registration period, you may contact the school of your choice via email or telephone on the respective registration days!

FamilyTutor, as home tuition in Singapore personally feels that the changes meted out by MOE for the P1 Registration is much needed for everyone’s safety during such a time like this.
